Capodastros are commonly called Capos for obvious reasons. While Capos are not an essential electric guitar accessory, many guitarists find them very useful. A guitar capo is a clamp that you put on different guitar frets to alter the pitch of the open strings. Every fret on the guitar is a half step, so if you put the capo on the first fret, the open strings will sound a semi-tone higher than they otherwise would. This changes the key of a song much easier than normal. Good Capos hold down all strings evenly. If the pressure is too high then it will make the notes sharper in pitch, affecting the tuning. If the pressure is too low a buzzing sound will come from the string. Capos can be either flat or curved, but for the purpose of an electric guitar you will need to use the curved models. It is best to buy a metal Capo, as those made of metal are more durable. It is also best to find a Capo that is quick and easy to use and that they engage and release smoothly. Below is a sample of Capos available. For more examples of Capos, use the power search on the left hand side of this page.
