Electric Guitar Buying Tips

Used Electric Guitars

If you want to buy and play a guitar, you might be unsure which type would suit you the best. You can choose from an acoustic, acoustic electric or electric guitar. Which type would be the best depends a lot on which genre of music you are planning to play on it. If you like to play rock, an electric guitar will suit you. If you prefer country, a steel string acoustic guitar might be better. If you like classical music, a classical guitar could be the best one to go for.

A guitar for a child is smaller but no worse in terms of quality or sound. A regular sized guitar can be very difficult for a child to play on and they could become frustrated unless their guitar size suits them. You will need to buy another one later on when they have grown a bit but if this is a problem for you, think about buying an electric guitar instead because they are easier to handle, lighter and slimmer.

Because new electric guitars can be quite expensive, a lot of amateur musicians prefer to invest in used ones. Used electric guitars are sold when the previous owner wants to upgrade to a new model or he has stopped playing completely. If you are thinking about buying a used guitar, it helps if you know the previous owner and his reputation for keeping his guitar in a good condition. The only physically visible wear on a used guitar should be the wearing out of the stings and this can be easily remedied.

An electric guitar has a solid or semi-solid body. It converts the vibration from the strings into electrical power, using electrical currents. This converted electrical power can be electronically filtered to play the same sounds but with different characters. Electric guitars first became popular in the big bands era of the 1970s when the rock culture prevailed in the world of music. From then, electric guitars were necessary to compete with the amplified instruments used by the jazz orchestras and they have grown in popularity ever since. Initially, electric guitars were simple hollow arch-top acoustic guitar bodies that had electromagnetic amplifiers. A new electric guitar could be bought for a cheaper price than a traditional one that persuaded a lot of guitar players to buy because they could obtain the same quality of sound for less money.

There are some things that affect the sound produced by a used electric guitar, including the kind of wood used in the frame, the quality and number of strings, the pickup, guitar necks and the frets. A professional musician can tell the difference between a good quality and a bad quality sound so it may be a good idea to bring one along when buying a used guitar. If the guitar has been well cared for, the sounds do not change much, so if you want to buy a second hand electric guitar, you could get a bargain with good sound quality.
